About Teaching Design Studio

Teaching Design Studio (TDS) is built around the belief that meaningful development requires more than isolated activities. It requires thoughtful design, clear objectives, opportunities for application, appropriate feedback and a process for reviewing progress.

TDS brings together educational thinking, content development and practical system design. Its work spans institutional documentation, student skill development and employability, and corporate learning and employee development.

Each service sector addresses a different set of needs. They are connected by a shared commitment to purposeful design, usability and improvement.

Our vision

To contribute to learning environments and organizations in which development is intentional, practical, measurable and continuously improved.

Our mission

To design and deliver structured content, learning experiences and support systems that help institutions organize and communicate their work, help learners develop relevant capabilities, and help organizations connect learning with application.

Our educational philosophy

Learning and development as an ongoing process.

Information and instruction are important, but development also requires practice, feedback, reflection and opportunities to apply what has been learned.

We believe that systems should support the people who use them. Institutional documentation should reflect actual practice and remain manageable for staff. Learning activities should give learners clear direction and meaningful opportunities to improve. Employee development should connect training with workplace situations.

We therefore value

Purposeful design

Every activity or document should serve a clear need.

Practical application

Learning and systems should work in real contexts.

Evidence and clarity

Decisions and descriptions should be grounded in relevant information.

Usability

Processes should be understandable and manageable for the people involved.

Feedback and improvement

Review should inform the next step.

Our areas of work

Three connected areas.

TDS works across three connected areas: institutional content and systems; student skill development and employability; and corporate learning and employee development. Each area has its own service approach and deliverables. The common thread is the design of work that is clear, relevant and capable of being put into practice.
